What can modern isekai learn from the 90s?

Our recent Escaflowne rewatch got us thinking about the big differences between 90s shoujo isekai and modern isekai–including a lot of stuff we miss.

  • What’s your favorite classic isekai? Why?
  • What differences do there tend to be between male-led isekai vs female-led isekai? What cues could the former take from the latter?
  • Any modern lady-led isekai stories to recommend?
