What are some great moments in translation and localization?

Translating can be a thankless job–one where doing it well means that most people won’t notice your hard work at all. Last week we talked about failures in translation, so it’s only right that we take time to acknowledge how good that work is when it goes right.

  • Do you prefer a looser translation that captures the feeling of what’s being said, or a stiffer but more technically exact one?
  • Have any localizations caused you to prefer a dub track to a sub?
  • What are some of your favorite translation choices (lines, names, phrases–anything that’s stuck in your head)?
