“Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil” Movie Gets Second Trailer & Plot Details

Soon, the mighty Tanya shall set her sights on the grandest of scales.

On October 16, the the official Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil anime website updated with a new teaser trailer, as well as new details on the film’s plot. We break the details down below.

The 35-second teaser opens with a front shot of Tanya, who’s boasting about her latest achievements. At the 13-second mark, an alarm sounds, as her tone, and those of other characters grows increasingly dire. A powerful, brassy melody kicks in, to underscore the urgency.

Plot

Unified Calendar Year 1926.

The 23rd Air Mage Battalion of the Russy Federation’s Army, led by Major Tanya Degurechaff, crushes the remnants of the Republican Army in a triumphant campaign. They were expecting a triumphant homecoming, but what awaited was the top brass from headquarters.

“There are signs of a major mobilization near the Russy Federation’s border.”

The nation is on the eve of the awakening of a new sleeping giant, and the so-called Federation’s army will naturally bring the battlefield beyond this point… …

At the same time, a multinational army of volunteers, led by the Allied Kingdom, venture into the Russy Federation’s borders.

The enemy of your enemy is a dear friend, but among their ranks is a girl, who was guided not by reason, but by fate.

Mary Sioux Warrant. In her quest for justice against the empire who killed her father, she carries a gun.

Yutaka Uemura (FLCL Alternative, Punch Line) will return to helm the film at Studio Nut, with Yuji Hosogoe () reprising their role as character designer. Kenta Ihara (Ajin: Demi-Human, Death Parade) was tapped to write the film’s script.

The confirmed voice cast includes:

  • Severin Bientot: Ryōkan Koyanagi

  • Kurt von Rudersdorf: Tesshō Genda
  • Warren Grantz: Yūsuke Kobayashi

The series is based on Carlo Zen and illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki’s light novel series of the same name. Yutaka Uemura directed the show at Studio NuT, with Yuji Hosogoe providing character designs. Kenta Ihara was in charge of series composition.

Crunchyroll streamed Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil as a simulcast, while Funimation produced a SimulDub for the title. Crunchyroll describes the show as:

It is June of the year CE 1923. A young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, Tanya Degurechaff, has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater, as part of her service to the force. Her training, the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage, should have gone off without a hitch… but things took an unexpected turn.
