Earlier today, Netflix announced that they will produce a four-episode anime series, titled Eden. A visual, the first staffers, and a brief synopsis were revealed for the project, which launches in 2020.
We break the details down below.
The image features a rear shot of a young child, who’s holding hands with two robots. The three overlook a verdant landscape. An unrecognizable shadow looms in the distance.
Yasuhiro Irie (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Alien Nine) will direct the project at studios Qubic Pictures and CGCG, with the team of Toshihiro Kawamoto (Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory) and Christophe Ferreira collaborating on concept designs and character designs.
Kimiko Ueno (The Royal Tutor, Kuromajyo-san ga Tōru!!) is writing the screenplay for the project.
Other confirmed staffers include:
- Music: Kevin Penkin
- Producer: Justin Leach
- Backgrounds: Clover Xie
Netflix describes Eden as:
[…]Eden is set thousands of years in the future, where a city known as “Eden 3” is inhabited solely by robots whose former masters vanished a long time ago. On a routine assignment, two farming robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis questioning all they were taught to believe — that humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth. Together, the two robots secretly raise the child in a safe haven outside Eden.
