Netflix LogoEarlier today, Netflix announced that they’ve entered partnerships with anime studios Anima, Sublimation, and David Production. The three studios will produce original anime projects for Netflix.

The first titles to come from the partnership will be Altered Carbon: Resleeved, which is being produced by Anima, Dragon’s Dogma by Sublimation, and Spriggan by David Production. Details on both titles have yet to be announced as of press time.

In January 2018, Netflix announced that they would partner with Production I.G. and Bones to co-produce anime projects.

Altered Carbon: Resleeved

Netflix first announced Altered Carbon: Resleeved during their “See What’s Next: Asia” event on November 8.

Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Tsukasa Kondo are credited as writers on Altered Carbon, with Anima slated to produce the animation. According to Netflix, the title will be set in the same world as the live-action original, and “explore new elements of the story mythology.”

Neflix describes the project as:

This anime feature spin-off, set in the same universe of the Netflix original live-action sci-fi series (second season in production from Skydance Television), will explore new elements of the story mythology.

Altered Carbon is a 2018 cyberpunk series from Netflix and Laeta Kalogridis, which is based on Richard K. Morgan’s novel of the same name. The show, which holds a 67% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, was nominated for Academy Awards for Outstanding Main Title Design and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.

Netflix describes the show as:

After 250 years on ice, a prisoner returns to life in a new body with one chance to win his freedom: by solving a mind-bending murder.

Dragon’s Dogma

Netflix describes Dragon’s Dogma as:

Based on a world-famous action RPG set in an open world, Dragon’s Dogma from CAPCOM will be brought to life as a Netflix original anime series. The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans.

Spriggan

Netflix describes Spriggan as:

Netflix original anime based on classic manga by Hiroshi Takashige, illustrated by Ryoji Minagawa. Edgy sci-fi battle action about a man with supernatural powers to seal historical remains.

Spriggan is based on Hiroshi Takashige and Ryōji Minagawa’s Striker manga. The project previously received an anime film adaptation in 1998, which was directed by Hirotsugu Kawasaki (Record of Lodoss War) at Studio 4°C.

ADV Films released the title in North America, and described it as:

At the top of the world, the ancient artifact known as Noah’s Ark has been uncovered. Buried and forgotten since before the birth of history, it holds the potential to elevate its holder to the status of a god… or to wipe mankind from the face of the Earth in a second!
