Crunchyroll Launches Haikyu!! Talent and Sense & Battle of Concepts Movies

To win in volleyball, you need talent, good sense, and a strong sense of concepts.

Crunchyroll launched a pair of Haikyu!! anime films on their digital platform today. Haikyu!! The Movie: Talent and Sense and Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle of Concepts are both available for Crunchyroll subscribers.

Both films are compilation movies, which retell key events across the show’s seasons.

Haikyu!! The Movie: Talent and Sense retells the events of the first season’s match between Aobajōsai High School. New scenes are set after Seijoh’s match, showing what happened after his big win in the semi-finals.

Crunchyroll describes the film as:

In order to prepare for the Spring Tournament prelims, the Karasuno High School Volleyball Club joins up with other powerhouse schools from the Kanto region for a training camp. The members of the Karasuno Volleyball team wanted to change, and evolved, which allowed them to make it to the Spring Tournament preliminary semi-finals. Their opponent at the semi-finals is Aoba Johsai High School, who defeated them at the Inter-High prelims. Despite Karasuno vehemently attacking since the beginning of the match, because of Oikawa’s precise serves and their secret weapon Kyotani’s powerful spikes, the flow of the game ends up going to Seijoh. Karasuno tries to get their rhythm back in the match with Hinata and Kageyama’s new weirdo quick attack and their pinch server, Yamaguchi’s service ace. Karasuno gives their all against in this battle against their ultimate rivals!

Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle of Concepts highlights the match against Shiratorizawa Academy, which occurs during the show’s third season. New scenes show what happens to Shiratorizawa following the finals, as well as a parting message that Ushiyama has to give to the next generation of players.

The finals of the Miyagi prelims for the Spring Tournament… After defeating Aoba Johsai, Karasuno head toward their next match to qualify for the Spring Tournament. Their opponent is the undefeated champion Shiratorizawa, led by the high school prodigy, Wakatoshi Ushijima. From the beginning of the match, Karasuno gets beat down by Ushijima’s ferocious spikes. Even though they try to turn the tables, they are also shut down due to Tendo’s precise blocks. Is this a wall they will not be able to get over? The one who holds the key to turning the tables is the master of blocking, Tsukishima. Hinata and Kageyama manage to increase their intensity due to his calm and precise defense. Despite both teams have completely different play concepts, their intensity is the same. Who will be the ones who will laugh after this desperate struggle?

Haikyu!! is a ongoing sports anime based on Haruichi Furudate’s manga of the same name. Susumu Mitsunaka directed the project, which began airing in the Spring 2014 season, at Production I.G. Takahiro Kishida(Durarara!!) was in charge of character designs for the show, while Taku Kishimoto was in charge of series composition.

Based off of the original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series from Haruichi Furudate, Haikyu!! is a slice-of-life sports anime revolving around Shoyo Hinata’s love of volleyball. Inspired by a small-statured pro volleyball player, Hinata creates a volleyball team in his last year of middle school. Unfortunately the team is matched up against the “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama’s team in their first tournament and inevitably lose. After the crushing defeat, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama After entering high school, Hinata joins the volleyball team only to find that Tobio has also joined.
