On June 24, Crunchyroll announced that they will publish a new mobile game based on the RWBY franchise. The game, titled RWBY: Crystal Quest, is slated to launch under the Crunchyroll Games label in late Summer 2019. Crunchyroll opened an official website for the game, which includes information on pre-registration.

The title will be a free-to-start “match-three” puzzle game, based on all three seasons of RWBY Chibi. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are all confirmed to appear in the title.

Crunchyroll released several screenshots, as well as four character model renders. You can check these out below.

Crunchyroll head of global operations and international Brady McCollum commented on the news, stating:

The Crunchyroll community already loves ‘RWBY’ for its charming cast of characters and its engaging action scenes […] In ‘RWBY Crystal Quest,’ fans can expect much of the same, with fan-favorite characters, similar pacing, and attacks coming to life through a fast-paced, match-three format.

RWBY writer and director Kerry Shawcross also offered comment, stating:

In ‘RWBY: Crystal Quest,’ fans can play as one of their favorite ‘RWBY’ characters by leading them through a series of puzzle battles […] We’re so excited to bring ‘RWBY Chibi’ to life with our friends at Crunchyroll Games and we can’t wait to share more with you soon.

RWBY is a web cartoon series, which was created by the late Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth. The series, which launched on July 18, 2013, currently spans seventy-nine episodes. The title has received numerous comic spin-offs, including a 15-chapter series by Shirow Miwa, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from November 2015 through February 2017.

Rooster Teeth describes RWBY as:

The future-fantasy world of Remnant is filled with ravenous monsters, treacherous terrain, and more villains than you can shake a sniper-scythe at. Fortunately, Beacon Academy is training Huntsmen and Huntresses to battle the evils of the world, and Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are ready for their first day of class.
