Sailor Moon S & Sailor Moon SuperS Movies Get Theatrical Runs in North America

The Sailor Guardians are bringing their battle for love and justice to a screen befitting of their mission.

Earlier today, Viz Media announced that they will partner with Fathom Events to give Sailor Moon S The Movie and Sailor Moon SuperS The Movie theatrical runs in North America. Both films will be shown as two-day events, with one day featuring the dub, and one highlighting the subtitled version.

In addition, the Sailor Moon S The Movie showing will also screen Sailor Moon R The Movie. Sailor Moon SuperS will be shown with Ami’s First Love, a short that hadn’t previously been released in the west before.

The première schedule is as follows:

  • 7/28/2018: Sailor Moon R and Sailor Moon S (Dubbed)
  • 7/30/2018: Sailor Moon R and Sailor Moon S (Subtitled)
  • 8/4/2018: Sailor Moon SuperS (Dubbed)
  • 8/6/2018: Sailor Moon SuperS (Subtitled)

Ticket sales for both films will go on sale on June 1. Fathom Events started streaming a trailer for the films, which you can check out below.

Sailor Moon S The Movie first hit theaters in December 1994. The feature was directed by Hiroki Shibata (Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Himitsu no Akko-chan) at Toei Animation and TV Asahi, with Hisashi Kagawa (Fresh Pretty Cure, Tiger Mask W) providing character designs. Sukehiro Tomita (The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Genesis Climber Mospeada) wrote the screenplay.

Sailor Moon SuperS originally hit theaters in December 1995. The film was directed by Hiroki Shibata at Toei Animation, with Hisashi Kagawa providing character designs. Yoji Enokido (Bungo Stray Dogs, Revolutionary Girl Utena) wrote the film’s screenplay.
