Truly, this news shall bring laughter of joy… not necessarily under the clouds.

Earlier today, during their panel at Otakon, Right Stuf announced that they’ve entered a distribution partnership with Eleven Arts. The retailer will release all of Eleven Arts’ titles going forward on home video.

Right Stuf LogoThe first title to ship under the agreement will be Haikara-san: Here Comes Miss Modern, which will ship during the holiday season. Laughing Under the Clouds Gaiden Parts 1 & 2 are also planned, though they do not have a specific release window for the films as of press time.

According to Right Stuf CEO Shawne Kleckner, Haikara-san and Laughing Under the Clouds are the only confirmed titles as of today. All other titles are strictly “to be determined.”

The Haikara-san: Here Comes Miss Modern films are based on Waki Yamato’s classic manga series of the same name. Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Mobile Suit Gundam UC, Rurouni Kenshin) directed the first film and wrote the screenplay at Nippon Animation. Terumi Nishii (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Penguindrum) is provided character designs for the project.

The film, which opened in Japan on November 11, received the approval of manga author Waki Yamato.

Eleven Arts describes the feature as:

Benio’s aptitude for martial arts, her strong will, and her dedication to her friends is what made her such an icon in the original manga, and inspired a successful run for the TV adaptation. Today, titles like Wonder Woman and Lady Bird and even other anime such as Mary and the Witch’s Flower and Napping Princess have carried the torch with themes of female empowerment. Haikara-san: Here Comes Miss Modern updates a beloved character while joining the roster of new female cinema for today’s world. It is the perfect time for this title.

Tetsuya Wakano was tapped to direct the Laughing Under the Clouds Gaiden film trilogy at Wit Studio, with Kii Tanaka (Cheating Craft, Hundred) providing character designs. Eiji Umehara (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Beelzebub) is in charge of series composition for the project.

Eleven Arts describes the features as:

Gaiden picks up where the original series left off, in the wake of the Yamainu squad’s battle with the formidable Orochi serpent. Now that the Yamainu have vanquished their enemy and escorted all criminals to the local prison, government officials decide to outlaw swords – putting Japan’s great avengers out of a job. So now the Yamainu, all trained assassins, must pull together to find a new cause, one within their own group.
