Princess Principal Gets 6-Film Anime Project; First Trailer & Visual Revealed

It looks like the Commonwealth shall rise once again next year.

Earlier today, Princess Principal fans flocked to the “Princess Principal Stage of Mission” fan event. During the show, news broke that the Princess Principal anime will receive a sequel project.

The project will be a new sequel story, which will be presented as six feature films. The first feature is due to hit theaters in 2019. A promotional video and key visual for the films were revealed, the details of which we break down below.

Trailer

The 28-second trailer features snippets of footage from the anime, set to the show’s opening theme. The teaser confirms that the sequel films are in production, and that they will be all-new works (i.e. not recaps).

Key Visual

The new visual, which was drawn by character designer Kouhaku Kuroboshi, features the lead characters clad in their Commonwealth gear. Behind them is a scene, which breaks away to show a crimson moon.

Princess Principal aired in the Summer 2017 broadcast season. Sentai Filmworks holds the rights to the show and streamed it as an Anime Strike exclusive simulcast.

The TV series was helmed by Masaki Tachibana (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Barakamon), with Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Kino’s Journey) providing character designs. Ichiro Okouchi (Azumanga Daioh, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) was in charge of series composition and scripts.

Yuki Kajiura scored the show’s soundtrack.

Sentai Filmworks describes the title as:

At the end of the 19th century, London, the Kingdom of Albion has been split into East and West sides by a giant wall. Five girls attend Queen’s Mayfaire, a conventional and prestigious school. Under the guise of regular high school girls, they act as spies under cover. Disguise, reconnaissance, infiltration, car chases… Each girl uses their own set of special skills to dart around the world of shadow.
