NicoNico LogoThis… is never good. Best of luck to the NicoNico crew.

Earlier today, video platform NicoNico’s English Facebook page reported that the site was hit by a cyberattack. According to the post, a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack was unleashed on the site on November 2, at 9:00PM JST (7:00AM EST, 4:00AM PST), rendering several services unreachable for users.

To mitigate the issue, “select connections” outside of Japan were disabled on a temporary basis. Though services were restored as of press time, NicoNico’s post closes with “Please note that should another network issue occur, connections may again be disconnected without notice.”

NicoNico is a Japanese video sharing service owned by telecom Dwango. The service, which launched in December 2006, is the tenth most-visited website in Japan, per Alexa rankings.
