Netflix licenses “Flavors of Youth” Film, Plans Anime Expo Screening

Life comes in many flavors, and this film aims to share three of them.

Earlier today, Netflix announced that they licensed Flavors of Youth (Shikioriori). The company will stream the film worldwide on August 4.

They released a key visual and trailer for the movie, as well as details on a theatrical screening. We break the details down below.

Premiere

Netflix will host the world première of Flavors of Youth at Anime Expo 2018. The feature will be shown on July 6, at 11:30AM Pacific in Hall B. Director Yoshitaka Takeuchi and Producer Noritaka Kawaguchi will attend the screening, and host a Q&A session following the movie.

Netflix will also host a “NETFLIX❤ANIME” panel on July 5, which will focus on the company’s upcoming anime slate. Cannon Busters creator LeSean Thomas and Castlevania showrunner Adi Shankar will both co-host the event.

The minute-long teaser highlights the three main stories. Each segment sees its lead narrating to set the stage.

The image is identical to the visual that dropped on May 25, albeit with English text.

Flavors of Youth Key Visual

The project, which is a co-production between CoMix Wave Films and Haoliners, will be an anthology film that covers three short stories. The three tales will focus around three core themes: food, clothing, and shelter. Each will also take place in a different Chinese city.

  • Chiisana Fashion Show (A Small Fashion Show)
  • Shanghai Koi (Shanghai Love)

Each segment will feature a different director:

  • Sunny Breakfast: Jiaoshou Yi Xiaoxing
  • Shanghai Love: Li Haolin
  • A Small Fashion Show: Yoshitaka Takeuchi

The confirmed voice cast includes:

  • Shaomin (Hidamari no Chōshoku): Taito Ban
  • Irin (Chiisana Fashion Show): Minako Kotobuki
  • Lulu (Chiisana Fashion Show): Haruka Shiraishi
  • Steve (Chiisana Fashion Show): Hiroki Yasumoto

  • Shiaoyu (Shanghai Koi): Ikumi Hasegawa
