Captain Tsubasa Dub Launches on Primo TV on 8/4/2018

It looks like this footie fave is making its way to broadcast TV in the states.

On July 30, Primo TV published a short teaser trailer for the 2018 Captain Tsubasa anime to their Twitter account. The 30-second teaser offers a brief preview of the show’s dub.

Captain Tsubasa will début Primo TV on August 4 at 10:00PM Eastern (7:00PM Pacific). The second episode will air a day later in the same time slot.

Toshiyuki Kato (Full Moon o Sagashite, Level E) is directing Captain Tsubasa at David Production, with Hajime Watanabe (Kodocha, Animation Runner Kuromi) providing character designs. Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokémon XY, Trinity Blood) is in charge of series composition for the show.

Viz Media currently holds the rights to the Captain Tsubasa reboot.

Yōichi Takahashi’s Captain Tsubasa manga kicked off in the pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in April 1981. The initial series ran through 1988, spanning 37 collected volumes. The title went on to spawn:

  • Five sequel manga series by Takahashi
  • Four anime films
  • Two OVA sequel
  • A 128-episode anime TV series that ran from 1983 – 1986
  • A 47-episode anime TV series that ran from 1994 – 1995
  • A 52-episode anime TV series that ran from 2001 – 2002
  • Numerous video game adaptations

Primo TV is a network operated by Comcast. The channel, which launched in January 2017, aims to provide “quality family programming targeted to bicultural Hispanic youth.” The network aimed at children, ages 6 – 16, while its “Kids Central” block focuses on 3-7 year olds.
