This week, The Alamo Drafthouse cinema chain announced their lineup for their annual Drafthouse of Horrors Halloween event. The page contains an announcement that classic OVA Angel’s Egg (Tenshi no Tamago) will be screened on October 28, at 6:15PM in their Omaha cinema.

Angel’s Egg is a 1985 short-form OVA, which was directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer) at Studio DEEN. Oshii also co-wrote the story with Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D) and wrote the film’s script. Amano provided character designs for the project.

The project has never been licensed for release in North America, though it gained cult status through tape trades and other means of black-market distribution.

The Alamo Drafthouse describes the feature as:

In a desolate and dark world full of shadows, lives one little girl who seems to do nothing but collect water in jars and protect a large egg she carries everywhere. A mysterious man enters her life… and they discuss the world around them.
